Twin Peaks is one of the most memorable TV series of all time. Created by the late David Lynch, who died earlier this year, Twin Peaks enjoyed success both in the early '90s and in 2017, when Showtime revived the groundbreaking series for a third season.
As mentioned, Z to A is a one-stop shop. You'll get all 30 episodes of the original two-season series, the aforementioned 1992 prequel film, and the 2017 revival, which aired on Showtime for 18 episodes. This is 48 episodes of an excellent television series and an amazing feature film in one bottle.
- Season 1 (1990) – 8 episodes
- Season 2 (1990-91) — 22 episodes.
- Season 3 (2017) — 18 episodes
- Fire Walk with Me (1992) – prequel film
You'll also get a long list of special features, including 4K versions of the pilot episode of the original series and episode 8 of Twin Peaks: A Limited Event Series. Here are the main points:
Twin Peaks: From Z to A Features
- Missing Pieces: Fire Walk with Me, Deleted/Alternate Scenes (90 minutes)
- Behind the Scenes: The Making of Twin Peaks: Limited Event Series
- Full-length versions of all musical performances of Roadhouse Bar
- Conversation with Kyle MacLachlan and Sheryl Lee
- On the couch with Kimmy and Harry
- 4K versions of the original series “Pilot” and “Twin Peaks: Limited Event Series” Episode 8
- Additional features from previous Twin Peaks home releases
In total, that's over 20 hours of additional Twin Peaks content. It is worth noting that the packaging for the re-release of Twin Peaks: From Z to A differs from the original 2019 version. The new edition uses a plastic slipcase rather than the premium fold-out box of the original, and does not include collectible prints. This cost-saving measure will likely make the sets easier to produce, which will hopefully mean this run will stay in print longer. It's no longer a collector's item like the original release, but it does offer an affordable way to watch the entire series on Blu-ray.

Criterion's edition of Fire Walk with Me is a beautiful display piece and includes an exclusive booklet with essays. The actual content on the disc is the same as Z to A, but you won't be able to watch the film in 4K unless you purchase Criterion's standalone version.
Fire Walk with Me joins The Criterion Collection standard Blu-ray back in 2017.

Twin Peaks: The Television Collection was released on Blu-ray in 2019. Up until the launch of the Z to A reissue earlier this year, this 16-disc collection was the default choice for anyone who wanted the series in a physical 1080p format. It includes a 30-episode original series and an 18-part limited event series.
The Television Collection is missing some of the features from Z to A, as well as the prequel film Fire Walk with Me. But if you pick up one of the Criterion Collection editions of the film, the omission here won't matter much.
The only thing missing from The Television Collection's re-released version of Z to A is the cover and packaging. The TV collection definitely looks better than the huge plastic From Z to A case.
$30 (was $51)
Twin Peaks: The Television Collection is also available on DVD in a 17-disc box set matching the Blu-ray edition. Some fans may prefer to watch the series – or at least the first two seasons – on a 480p CRT TV. To be clear, we wouldn't recommend this unless you have a TV that plays DVDs well, as DVD images often look terrible on modern displays.
24 dollars (was 40 dollars)
The third season was also re-released on Blu-ray in February. Showtime's 18-episode revival, often called “The Return” or “Limited Event Series,” retails for $24 (was $40).
In addition to all the Showtime episodes, you'll get plenty of featurettes, a behind-the-scenes photo gallery, and a video of the Twin Peaks Season 3 panel at Comic-Con.
If you buy Z to A or the TV Collection, there's really no point in buying them separately since these box sets include all 18 episodes of the Showtime series. And unlike the Criterion Collection edition of Fire Walk with Me, you don't get any fancy packaging, bonus inserts, or higher resolution that would justify buying “the same thing” twice.
