Antifa be warned: The Trump administration is coming for you, but first they'll have to talk to some podcasters.
Conservative podcaster Glenn Beck insisted Monday that the FBI is turning “every stone” to find members of the famed decentralized anti-fascist movement – a fact he learned when they allegedly showed up at his door to discuss a recent episode in which he discussed an alleged antifa network.
“We first went deep and analyzed the Antifa network and then moved from street thugs to support groups and ultimately to funding. To say the FBI was interested in this would be an understatement,” Beck said. said. “It's very clear to me that they are looking into every aspect of this issue and are talking to anyone and everyone who can give them any information.”
“How do I know? They’ll call me on Saturday,” Beck continued, recalling the conversation.
“The Director would like to send some agents to speak with you, Glenn.” I was like, “Director? FBI agents? “Yes, you said something they need to talk to you about.”
The fact that Beck could attract the attention of FBI Director Kash Patel should not come as a surprise, especially since Patel ran his own conspiracy political show before he was tasked with leading America's leading investigative agency.
“They sat in my—three agents—sat in my living room for almost two hours,” Beck said. “It was surreal for a moment.”
For years, Donald Trump and his allies have promoted the idea that violent far-left radicals are wreaking havoc in cities across the country, but their rhetoric has been conspicuously lacking in evidence. To quell the noise, members of the House Intelligence Committee asked The CIA and FBI investigate false intelligence campaigns in 2020 and find evidence of an alleged “invasion” by an anti-fascist group. Despite reports Contrary to Trump's rhetoric, the noise has not died down.
Last week Trump appointed Antifa has been called a “domestic terrorist organization” even though antifascists do not commit nearly as much violence as the far-right extremists they oppose.
“Antifa is a militaristic, anarchist enterprise that openly calls for the overthrow of the United States government, law enforcement and our legal system,” Trump's order said.
But Trump's actions ignored the fact that he does not have the power to designate antifa a terrorist organization—that power lies with Congress. Critics warn this could be just the beginning as the White House works to more broadly crack down on political opposition to its immigration agenda, as evidenced by Trump's decision to send in the National Guard to crack down alleged riots in the hipster paradise of Portland, Oregon, or the rise of rhetoric that full of fervor against antifa with legitimate political parties such as the Democratic Socialists of America.
