Trump says Xi Jinping meeting will last 3-4 hours at South Korea dinner

President Donald Trump offered new details of his upcoming meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping on Wednesday, saying he expected the meeting to last several hours.

Trump made the comments during a diplomatic dinner hosted by South Korean President Lee Jae-myung on Wednesday. Trump was caught on a hot microphone as he sat down to lunch and said his meeting with Xi Jinping on Thursday morning would last “three to four hours.”

“We will have something that will be very, very satisfactory for China and for us. I think we will have… I think it will be a very good meeting. I look forward to seeing her tomorrow morning when we meet,” Trump said.

During his official speech, Trump also said that he was confident that South Korea's conflict with the North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un Jong-yu “It will turn out very well.”

“You have a neighbor who hasn't been as good as he could be, and I think he will be. I know Kim Jong-un very well and I think everything will be fine,” he said.

Trump said earlier this week that he would be open to meeting Kim during his stay in South Korea. Trump enters the final leg of his five-day visit to Asia on Wednesday, having already visited Japan earlier this week.

“With pleasure meet him if he wants to meet. I got along great with Kim Jong-un. I liked him, he liked me,” Trump said during an appearance on Air Force One on Monday.

Trump met with Kim several times during his first term, becoming the first US president to set foot in North Korea. However, no meeting was announced this week.

Trump's talks with his South Korean counterpart come as the two countries move closer to concluding a new trade agreement.

Henry Haggard, a former political adviser at the US Embassy in Seoul, told Fox News Digital: “Trump's main goal in meeting with Lee Jae-myung is to secure a trade deal and, with it, $350 billion in investment in the United States.”

“He will also seek to push Lee to commit a tougher stance on Chinaand increase defense spending. Lee will seek to charm Trump because the key to maintaining bilateral relations is strengthening Lee's relationship with Trump.”

Lee is the head of a leftist government that has so far shown reluctance to expand South Korea's partnership with the United States for fear of provoking a Chinese backlash.
