“While I have been focused on achieving real results, judges in my state have embraced the flawed tradition of blue bugs and become weapons of the politicized left… They have aligned themselves with New Jersey senators who care more about fighting President Trump than the well-being of the residents they serve,” Habba wrote in her book. resignation letterpublished on X. “As a result of the Third Circuit's ruling and to protect the stability and integrity of the office I love, I have decided to resign as U.S. Attorney for the District of New Jersey. But do not confuse consent with capitulation. This decision will not weaken the Department of Justice, and it will not weaken me.”
Hubba was initially expected to leave his temporary position in the summer as New Jersey federal judges refused extend her 120-day term as U.S. Attorney. But the Trump administration fired Desiree Grace, the first assistant U.S. attorney and Hubba's planned successor, before Hubba's term ended, deliberately leaving the position unfilled. Hubba was then named first assistant, allowing her to take on the role of acting U.S. attorney without Senate confirmation, which she likely failed to do.
“My fight will now spread across the country. While we await further review of the court's decision, I will continue to serve at the Department of Justice as the Senior Advisor to the Attorney General for United States Attorneys,” Habba concluded in a statement. “Make no mistake, you can take the girl out of New Jersey, but you can’t take New Jersey out of the girl.”
