President Donald Trump announced Friday that he is backing Navy SEAL Ed Galrein to challenge Kentucky Republican Thomas Massie.

In a lengthy Truth Social post, Trump called Massie a “third-rate congressman” and a “weak and pathetic RINO,” saying he should be “thrown out of office ASAP” before announcing his support for Galrein.
“The incredible people of Kentucky's 4th Congressional District have given us the mandate to MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN, and the man who will help us do it is Navy SEAL, Army Ranger and fifth generation Kentucky farmer, Capt. Ed Galrein, a true American patriot,” Trump wrote. “A brave combat veteran, Ed knows the wisdom and courage needed to protect our country, support our military/veterans and ensure PEACE THROUGH STRENGTH.”

“I hope Ed enters the race against Massie, who is currently polling at about 9% of the vote, because the great people of Kentucky are wise to him – he only votes against the Republican Party, which makes life very easy for the radical left,” Trump added. “RUN ED, RUN – MAGA!”

In a statement provided to the Daily Caller News Foundation, Massie told the publication that Trump's “advisers clearly hit the panic button” in choosing who should challenge him. The lawmaker also pointed DCNF to a clip featuring Galrein, who lives in the Massey area, during a radio interview in July. declaring that it would be an “honor and privilege to serve” if there was a particular race where he was needed.
“After Trump's consultants were rejected by every elected official in the 4th District, they clearly hit the panic button by choosing failed candidate and establishment hacker Ed Galrein. Ed has been begging them to choose him for over three months,” Massey told DCNF.
