President Donald Trump has no plans to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin, a senior White House official told Fox News Digital on Tuesday.
The news that the meeting would not take place comes just days after Trump said he plans to meet with Putin in Budapest, Hungary, in the coming weeks. Prior to that meeting, Secretary of State Marco Rubio was scheduled to meet this week with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
“Secretary Rubio and Foreign Secretary Lavrov had a productive conversation. Therefore, an additional face-to-face meeting between the Secretary of State and Foreign Secretary is not necessary, and there are no plans for President Trump to meet with President Putin in the near future,” the official said.
Trump had noted that the Rubio-Lavrov meeting will be a stepping stone to a summit meeting.

“We will then meet with President Putin at an agreed location in Budapest. Hungary to see if we can put an end to this “inglorious” war between Russia and Ukraine,” he wrote on X. “President Zelensky and I will meet tomorrow in the Oval Office where we will discuss my conversation with President Putin and much more. I believe today's phone call made great progress.”

Acquisition Tomahawk missiles is a top priority for Zelensky because modern weapons could reach far beyond Moscow and could transform Ukraine's ability to strike not only much of the Russian military complex but also its oil industry, which largely finances its military budget.
However, Trump made no mention of offering weapons to Zelensky after their meeting.

Trump remains committed to bringing peace to Ukraine. At a White House lunch Tuesday with Republican lawmakers, he stressed that he has achieved peace in eight conflicts since taking office.
