President Donald Trump on Sunday criticized Texas Democratic Rep. Henry Cuellar after the lawmaker said he would seek re-election as a member of the Democratic Party despite Trump pardoning him and his wife Imelda.

In a post Sunday on Truth Social, Trump said Democrats under the Biden administration have tried for years to destroy Cuellar and his family through what he called aggressive and politically motivated prosecutions.
“Can you imagine??? The Democrats under the fraudulent administration of Joe Biden, who always use extreme force and imprisonment to destroy their political opponent, wanted to put Congressman Henry Cuellar and his wife Imelda in PRISON for 15 years, which is what I predicted these radical left lunatics would do.” – Trump wrote. “And they never stopped wanting to complete this evil quest! Trump said Democrats brutally targeted Cuellar and his family long after they lost the 2024 election.

Cuellar said he considers himself a conservative Democrat who works across party lines and supports Trump's success.
“I'm a conservative Democrat and I work across borders and I want the president to succeed. President Trump and that's good for the country and I'll work with anyone,” Cuellar said. “We may have some differences, but if I can work with them, I will work with President Trump.”
