Donald TrumpIran, which has regularly criticized US intervention in the Middle East, attacked President Obama in 2011 for failing to support Iranian demonstrators protesting the results of the country's presidential election two years earlier.
IN video on YouTube uploaded by Trump in October 2011, he criticized Obama's handling of the recent intervention in Libya before moving on to his response to the 2009 Iranian protests.
“If Obama had supported the people of Iran two years ago, when there was a big, big problem in this country – and the protesters were making progress – like he supported the protesters in United States— as they call themselves the occupiers, “we won’t have any problems in Iran,” Trump said, “trust me.”
“This country would have given up so quickly if he had abandoned these people instead,” Trump added. “And you know what the end result is. And Iran has only become stronger. This man doesn't know what he's doing.”
This was not the first time Trump said he would prefer the United States take an active role in overthrowing Middle Eastern dictators. He had previously expressed support for the US invasion of Iraq and intervention in Libya to destroy Muammar Gaddafi. Moreover, Trump praised overthrow of Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak. Contrary to his previous position, Trump now says the overthrow of Mubarak was a mistake and calls the decisions to intervene in Iraq and Libya catastrophes.
