Transgender comedian mocks volleyball player’s brain injury, faces backlash

Transgender comedian Stacey Kay sparked backlash on social media Friday after she made a joke about a former high school volleyball player. Payton McNabb traumatic brain injury.

Kay's joke didn't take into account the fact that McNabb got a concussionKay called the footage of the incident “pretty funny.”

“They never want to show a clip of what happened because it's actually quite funny,” Kay said.

“She was hit right on the head and then she fell down like a child. And I was like, “Oh, she really was like that before.” I don't know if this is a nice way to say it, but she should have worn a helmet. She shouldn't have been there with normal people.”

McNabb provided Fox News Digital with a statement in response to Kay's comments.

“A grown man making fun of a teenage girl's brain injury is not comedy, it's cruelty. My story is not a highlight. It's a warning about what happens when adults ignore reality, and girls pay the price. I am suffering from something that has changed my life forever. Your jokes will not silence me; they just prove why this fight matters,” McNabb said.

Kay's joke sparked backlash from other Save Women's Sports activists, including Riley Gaines and XX-XY Athletics co-founder Jennifer Seay.

McNabb's story has become one of the flashpoints in the cultural movement to protect women's sports from trans athletes, and has been cited by government officials including President Donald Trump and U.S. Education Secretary Linda McMahon.

McNabb testified before Congress on Department of State Efficiency (DOGE) Subcommittee hearing on “Foul Play: Keeping Men Out of Women's Sports” in May.
