Cybercriminals recently stole and leaked customer information from Toys “R” Us Canada, exposing many people to phishing scams. identity theftand other forms of fraud.
The company began notifying affected customers about the incident, and in a letter that was quickly posted on social media, the company said it learned of the hack after hackers posted information about it on the dark web.

The letter does not specify how many people were affected, but said the attackers stole people's names, postal addresses, email addresses and phone numbers.
“We would like to emphasize that no passwords, credit card details, or similar sensitive data were involved in this incident,” the email said.
Additionally, the company said it already had “robust security” in its IT systems, but it had still strengthened it with a “range of enhanced security measures” to prevent future intrusions.
Not a word was said about who the attackers were or how they managed to get in. It was only said that there is no evidence yet that the data was used for other purposes.
Valid names, email addresses and phone numbers are valuable to cybercriminals who can use them for phishing, identity theft and other scams, so it's safe to say it's only a matter of time before customers start receiving spoof emails from Toys “R” Us or similar companies.
The company said it is currently in the process of notifying relevant authorities and urged customers to remain vigilant and not respond to unsolicited requests for information, never click on links or attachments from suspicious emails, and generally be wary of phishing and spoofing attempts.
