Toronto Argonauts to name Mike Miller as new head coach

The Toronto Argonauts are expected to name Mike Miller as the team's new head coach, sources confirmed. 3DownNation. TSN was the first to report this.

The 55-year-old has spent the last four seasons as Toronto's defensive backs coach, making him one of many internal candidates for this position. He was listed as one of the main candidates for this position 3DownNation last month and 3DownNation Insider Justin Dank was told this weekend that hiring Miller was a possibility.

A head coaching vacancy opened in Toronto when Ryan Dinwiddie left the organization to become the head coach and general manager of the Ottawa Redblacks.. Dinwiddie went 51-35 in five years with the Argonauts, finishing first in the East Division standings three times and winning two Gray Cups.

Miller was a big part of that success, helping Chad Kelly become the 2023 Most Outstanding Player and Nick Arbuckle to new career heights in 2025.

The Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania native previously spent 12 seasons in the NFL, serving two years as the offensive coordinator of the Arizona Cardinals. He also served as assistant head coach, offensive coordinator and defensive backs coach for the Montreal Alouettes in 2013 under Dan Hawkins.

In 2025, the Toronto Argonauts finished third in the East Division standings with a 5–13 record, missing the playoffs for the first time since 2019. Franchise quarterback Chad Kelly was unable to play the entire season due to a broken leg he suffered in the Eastern final last year, giving way to Nick Arbuckle, who threw for 4,370 yards, 26 touchdowns and 15 interceptions to be named by the team. The Argonauts ranked seventh in net offense, sixth in net defense and seventh in turnover differential of minus-eight. The club's leading rusher was Spencer Brown with 314 yards, the leading receiver was Dejon Brissett with 907 yards, and the leading tackler was Cameron Judge with 79 tackles. Toronto ranked ninth in attendance with an average attendance of 15,109, down 0.1 percent from the previous year.
