The Toronto Argonauts have completed their coaching staff under new head coach Mike Miller, which includes longtime CFL running back Ka'Deem Carey.
The 33-year-old will be the running backs coach after playing that position in the CFL for the past eight years. He rushed for 3,956 yards, caught 128 passes for 1,097 yards and 28 touchdowns in 65 regular season games with the Calgary Stampeders, Argonauts and Saskatchewan Roughriders. He suffered a horrific leg injury with the Roughriders in 2025, ending his season.
The Tucson, Arizona native finished his playing career with one All-CFL nod, three all-division selections and three Gray Cup wins. He was originally drafted by the Chicago Bears in the fourth round of the 2014 NFL Draft and played three seasons for the team, rushing for 443 yards, catching 13 passes for 131 yards and three touchdowns.
As previously reported 3DownNationGreg Quick is Toronto's new defensive coordinator. The 69-year-old spent the last five seasons with the Montreal Alouettes, helping the team win the Gray Cup in 2023. He previously served as defensive coordinator in Saskatchewan in 2015 and has been a two-time member of Toronto's coaching staff. Jason Shivers, who served as the team's defensive coordinator in 2025, was released in December despite having one year left on his contract.
Chris Miller will be the team's new defensive backs coach. He and head coach Mike Miller previously worked together for three seasons with the Arizona Cardinals, when Mike was the offensive coordinator and Chris was the defensive backs coach. The Pomona, California native was originally a first-round pick of the Atlanta Falcons in 1987 and spent 10 years playing quarterback in the NFL, earning one Pro Bowl selection. Since then, the 60-year-old has primarily coached at the high school level, except for one year as offensive coordinator for the Houston Roughnecks.
Demetrius Maxey returned to the Argonauts after helping the team win the championship in 2024. He will serve as the club's defensive line coach and assistant head coach after serving as special teams coordinator and defensive assistant with the Edmonton Elks in 2025. The 52-year-old Shreveport, Louisiana native spent 13 seasons in the league, five of them with the Argonauts. The four-time Gray Cup winner was named All-CFL twice.
Mickey Donovan returns as the team's special teams coordinator, a position he has held since 2022. The two-time Gray Cup champion has been playing in Canadian soccer since he was a standout midfielder at Concordia University in the early 2000s, where he later spent four years as the team's head coach. Donovan interviewed for the team's vacant head coaching position. in November following the departure of Ryan Dinwiddie.
Jovon Johnson named Toronto defensive backs coach. The Erie, Pennsylvania native recorded 564 defensive tackles, 76 pass knockdowns, 35 interceptions, 10 forced fumbles, 10 special teams tackles, eight sacks and eight defensive touchdowns in 12 CFL seasons with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, Ottawa Redblacks, Montreal Alouettes and Roughriders. The two-time All-CFL player and five-time All-Division player has spent the last six years coaching in the United States, most recently at Gannon University.
Former CFL player Kirrie Johnson will be the Argonauts' new wide receivers coach after spending the last six years coaching youth in his hometown of Houston, Texas. The 37-year-old played for the BC Lions, Saskatchewan Roughriders, Ottawa Redblacks and Argonauts from 2011 to 2015, catching 54 passes for 747 yards and one touchdown.
Dom Pickard became the team's offensive line coach after spending the last two seasons working with the running backs. 43-year-old native of Sainte-Foy, Quebec. Played 10 seasons in the CFL at center for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, Argonauts and Roughriders, winning one Gray Cup. He won another Gray Cup as a coach with Toronto in 2024. Before joining the Boatmen, he coached with CEGEP and U Sports.
Bubba Walker joined the team as Toronto's assistant linebacker and quality control coach. The Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania native has primarily coached at the NCAA level, including at Valdosta State, Georgia State and Georgia Southern.
Colin Ho will be assistant offensive line and quality control coach in Toronto after stints at Robert Morris University, St. Francis University, Westminster College and Edinboro University. In 2025, he served as the head coach at Kiski Area High School. Ho played at Robert Morris University, where he was coached by Mike Miller.
