Tori Amos I've already done more than enough. It goes without saying that she's had a huge influence on music, but it seems like she may have also spearheaded the ultimate seasonal symbol of the Ugg-clad Christian fall girl believers.
According to StereogumUser Bluesky has discovered evidence that the songwriter may have invented the pumpkin spice latte. Doug Mack pointed to a review of a September 1995 concert organized by Rocketlocal newspaper in Seattle, Washington—the famous home of Starbucks—where the writer recalls Amos reportedly telling the crowd, “You have all your Starbucks stuff. Well, I have one that tastes like pumpkin pie. This is my own invention, this is my contribution to Halloween. A little warming witch!”
Further on in Mack's thread on the origins of the PSL, he noted that while local coffee shops sold pumpkin-flavored drinks in the early '90s, Starbucks didn't introduce its ubiquitous basic version until 2003—so it's certainly possible that some of the chain's influencers were at that Tori Amos concert, or even read about it in the newspaper and, eventually, forever changed the culture. (At least it seems more likely than if someone came up with the idea straight out of a pumpkin.)
Ten years ago Kenny G took charge of the Frappuccino. The sexy jazzman was an early investor in Starbucks and a friend of CEO Howard Schultz.
