Tom Brady’s Religion Of Sports & Sonoro Team Up For Liga MX Docuseries

EXCLUSIVE: Religion of Sports And Sound are teaming up to produce a documentary series about Liga MX, Mexico's premier professional soccer league.

The English-language series will feature the three main Liga MX clubs – Juarez, Chivas and Tigres – with each team having three separate episodes for a total of nine. The series, already in production, will cover three areas for each team: the leadership of each football club, the players and coaches, and the fans.

As the United States, Mexico and Canada move closer to hosting the 2026 FIFA World Cup and the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, interest in soccer and its players is growing. The Liga MX docuseries will be distributed digitally on platforms such as YouTube, and a companion podcast will also be available with content not included in the doc.

“The idea is to offer a 360-degree look at these teams, and more than the teams themselves, the franchises they create and who they are as businesses and also as cultural moments and fans,” Sonoro co-founder Camila Victoriano told Deadline.

Sonoro and Religion of Sports' goal with the Liga MX docuseries is to provide English-speaking Latinos with the opportunity to follow the league.

Victoriano notes that the partnership with Religion of Sports touches on Latino soccer in a “less obvious way,” adding, “It's not just about the World Cup, it's not just about Hispanic Heritage Month or Cinco de Mayo. It's about all the other moments in the year that we are fans… and the moments in the year where you can connect with Latinos in a meaningful way.”

The reason for focusing on Liga MX rather than the US soccer league MLS was to highlight that “great cultural moments can come from anywhere.”

The partnership with Religion of Sports, a production company co-founded by Tom Brady, Michael Strahan and Gotham Chopra, came as they sought to reach young Latinos, Sonoro's area of expertise.

“They saw an opportunity in [Liga MX] franchise and they were looking for a partner who could offer the level of expertise to the community they were trying to reach,” explains Victoriano.

Religion of Sports has produced sports and pop culture documentaries, including Prime Video. Built in Birmingham: Brady and the Blues and Netflix Simone Biles “Rising” and also Hulu Thank You, Good Night: The Bon Jovi Story.

Sonoro is a general market media company targeting young, digitally savvy and multicultural consumers. The group has over 300 creators and a podcast network that is downloaded 100 million times each month.
