Tom Brady Wants to Make Super Bowl Monday a Holiday

Tom Brady wants the day after the Super Bowl to be… national holiday.

The NFL legend appears in a new commercial with actor and comedian Drusky for food delivery service Gopuff, which aired exclusively on TODAY on November 25, to support the cause.

“Nobody wants to work on the Monday after the biggest football game,” Brady says in the ad.

“That's why Gopuff wants to help you get through the hard part,” Druski says. “What if we could eliminate coffee breaks?”

Brady, winner of seven Super Bowl titles during his career with the New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, then fires a football at an unsuspecting office worker carrying some java. He also coaches other employees as they share their favorite commercials, expense reports, and engage in office gossip.

“Gopuff is creating a real political fund to make the Monday after the big game a national holiday,” Brady says in the form of a drawing with the words: “Super Monday Off Coalition” appears on the screen.

Drusky then tells one of the office workers that there are government officials and lobbying involved before Brady explains that interested people just need to place an order for Gopuff and “they'll do the rest.”

The Super Monday Off Coalition is “a 501(c)(4) nonprofit organization dedicated to making the Monday after the Big Game a federally recognized holiday through advocacy and political action,” Gopaff said in a press release.

“Going to work the day after a big game? Tough,” Brady added in a press release. “Huge numbers of employees are unexpectedly leaving work the day after the Big Game, creating a huge headache for businesses across the country and dragging down our economy. That's why I'm deepening my partnership with Gopuff to directly address this problem. Together, we're supporting the Super Monday Off coalition and advocating for an official holiday after the Big Game.”

Making Super Bowl Monday a national holiday is an idea that has been around for years. UK Poll earlier this year, 43% of working Americans said this should be the case.

“The Great Game unites every American,” said Yakir Gola, co-founder and co-CEO of Gopuff, in a press release. “That’s why the Monday after the Big Game should be Super Monday, an official federal holiday that honors our love of competition, winning and the greatest country on Earth.

“By supporting the Super Monday Off coalition, we are backing a cultural truth with real action. Now the President and Congress have a chance to do something truly historic – recognize the tradition that already unites this country and create a national holiday that Americans will celebrate for generations to come.”

There are currently no plans to make Super Bowl Monday a national holiday, but NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell told TODAY in September that potential to play the game before Presidents Day exists if the league moves from the current 17-game regular season to an 18-game schedule.

“I think if you went to an 18-week regular season, that would probably happen,” he said. “It's possible somewhere in the calendar. It could happen sooner, just because of the calendar, the way it works. But I think 18 weeks will get you to that point, and I think that would be a really great move.”

The next Super Bowl, Super Bowl 60, will be played on February 8, 2026 at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California, home of the San Francisco 49ers. In 2026, Presidents' Day falls on February 16th.
