A24 released a new trailer for the film “Marty Supreme“, Josh SafdieSports drama starring Timothée Chalamet as table tennis prodigy Marty Mauser.
The film “Marty Supreme” takes place in the 1950s. It follows Marty Mauser as he pursues his dream of becoming a table tennis champion. The film is a fictionalized account of the real-life Marty Raisman, who won five World Table Tennis Championship medals.
In addition to Chalamet, the cast includes Gwyneth Paltrow, Fran Drescher, Tyler Okonma (known professionally as Tyler, the Creator), Penn Jillette, Odessa A'tzion, Shark Tank character Kevin O'Leary (aka Mr. Wonderful), and Abel Ferrara.
Josh Safdie's last feature film was 2019's Uncut Gems, which he directed and co-wrote with his brother Benny Safdie. Marty Supreme is Josh Safdie's first solo film since his 2008 debut The Pleasure of Heist. He co-wrote the script for Marty Supreme with Ronald Bronstein, and the film was produced by Safdie, Bronstein, Eli Bush, Anthony Katagas, Chalamet and A24.
In October, “Marty Supreme” received a standing ovation during secret inspection at the 63rd New York Film Festival, where Chalamet and Josh Safdie made surprise appearances along with Paltrow, Oconma, A'tzion and co-writer Bronstein.
“This film is, in many ways beyond Marty Mauser, a love letter to New York,” Chalamet said on stage, adding that he was “very excited” for his latest film to debut in the city.
“Marty Supreme” has since received Oscar buzz. DiversityThe magazine's awards editor-in-chief, Clayton Davis, writes in analysis“In a season where four films have 10 or more projected nominations, A24's 'Marty Supreme' just came out – and it looks like a spoiler few saw coming. Much like its titular character played by Timothée Chalamet – a young man with a dream no one respects who goes to hell and back in search of greatness – the film could be the dark horse the Oscar race didn't realize it needed.”
“Marty Supreme” will be released in theaters on December 25. Check out the new trailer below.”
