Democratic Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz vowed to stand his ground Tuesday as lawmakers in his own state call for him to resign over his handling of the Somalia fraud scandal.
Minnesota Republican state legislators collectively called Walz to resign as governor effective immediately over the scandal, which revealed that dozens of Somalis stole more than $9 billion from federal social service programs in the state. Walz told reporters he would resign “due to [his] corpse” and accused those lawmakers of taking orders from President Donald Trump.
“That's not going to happen. I'm not going anywhere,” Walz said. “And you can make all your requests for my resignation, it will happen over my dead body. I will fight this to the very end to make this state a better place, and the question that I think they need to solve is when is the guy in the White House going to resign? When is he going to take responsibility for what he did?
