Between his chart-topping album “The River” and the classic “Born in the USA,” Bruce Springsteen recorded a collection of songs on a 4-track cassette recorder in the bedroom of his rented farmhouse—dark, mournful, and raw songs that reflected the changes in his life during a period of increasing success. The resulting album, 1982's Nebraska, was one of his most personal and helped cement his status as one of music's most soulful voices. Springsteen talks with correspondent Jim Axelrod about how “Nebraska” influenced his development as a songwriter. Axelrod also speaks with Warren Zanes, author of the new book Deliver Me Out of Nowhere: The Making of Bruce Springsteen's Nebraska.
