And one initiative has helped awareness of the day go mainstream: an annual event that shines a light on the cause—literally. To mark the occasion, actress, singer and songwriter Gina Naomi Baez, a three-time cancer survivor, and motivational speaker Tami Eagle Bowling, living with metastatic breast cancer, will host #LightUpMBC Live, a livestream event that will raise awareness of incurable metastatic breast cancer and will raise funds for research into metastatic breast cancer.

The event will feature inspiring stories of MBC's successful people and the people who love them, as well as performances by Broadway actor Stephen Grant Douglas; Anne Hampton Callaway, Tony Award-nominated singer, songwriter, actress and breast cancer survivor; Broadway actress Mamie Parris; platinum-selling singer-songwriter Em Beichold, singer-songwriter e.woolf; Grammy Award-winning musician Bootsy Collins and his wife, performer Patti Collins; and singer-songwriter Jess Lamb.
