This image… ^^^ … yes, the same one. This is not Animal Crossing. This is Animal Village Online, a seemingly expected game that somehow managed to sneak into the very real PlayStation Store. Honestly, I'm shocked.
There are a ton of video game rip-offs out there, the legality of which ranges from mildly questionable to deliberately vile to the point of, “Damn, I can't believe they're getting away with this.” Based on the only available image and description of the game, this is probably the most obvious clone I've ever seen.
I mean, starting with the image: it's just a screenshot of Animal Crossing New Horizons, and you can't convince me otherwise. The art style, the character designs, even the rocks, trees and flowers in the background… identical.
And there is also a description. “Create and expand your own charming home, craft furniture, grow crops, fish, and decorate your surroundings to suit your personal style,” it says.
“Invite friends to visit your village, explore, or hang out together in real time. Help each other collect materials, exchange items and build beautiful places.”
Yes, it's just Animal Crossing. I mean, honestly, this sounds like a lot of cozy games, but combined with the name Animal Village and that promotional image, I can only imagine Nintendo's lawyers hovering over this game like a hawk over a rabbit.
According to Vishnu Sudirman, who is listed as the developer, the game will be released in 2027. Yes, we'll see.
