KES is full of unique concepts, but every now and then I come across something that seems to just exist. I got a (literally) taste of it with Lollipop Star.
This sweet treat has another trick: it can play music while it's in your mouth using bone conduction (sound vibrations that travel through your cheekbones to your inner ear). You can choose from three artists: Ice Spice, Akon and Armani White. Each pop artist has his own taste: Ice Spice is peachy, Akon is blueberry, and Armani White is lime. I chose Ice Spice.
Ripping open the plastic packaging, I found a stick with a lollipop on one end and a convex part at the bottom with a power button. We had to wear the earplugs they provided for us to hear the music, especially in louder environments.
There are three artists and tastes.
Unwrapping the candy, I brought it to the back of my mouth and bit it with my molars. Suddenly, the tiny vibrations that I had mostly felt in the pen turned into music that I could hear in my skull. The audio is very muffled and I had a hard time making out the text in the busy halls of CES, but it's a wild feeling.
Lava, the company behind the musical candy, says the songs were created specifically for the product. An added bonus: the candy is delicious—at least the peach one I had.
When I asked the team why they made Lollipop Star, the answer was simple: “Why not?”
And frankly, I agree.
Lollipop Star will be released after CES and will cost $8.99 each. It will be available online and in some retail stores.
