This Is Lorelei’s ‘Holo Boy’ Is a Blast from the Past │ Exclaim!

The past few years have been busy for Nate Amos, who, as half of the art-pop duo Water from your eyes, released one of the best albums of 2025 following the release of his excellent 2024 album Box or buddy, box for a star under him This is Lorelei nickname. Now he's back with another record under that moniker. Holo boy a collection of 10 re-recorded songs from his extensive Bandcamp catalog from 2014-2021.

Amos doesn't reinvent the wheel Holo boybut the record allows him to rely entirely on his genre-defying instincts as he breathes new life into each track. His candid lyricism and sardonic humor are as present as ever, and he expertly weaves each track into a rambling yet understandable tapestry. It wasn't until I heard the two previously released singles, “Holo Boy” and “Name the Band”, in the context of the larger record that I finally liked them.

“But You Just Woke Me Up” and “Dreams Away” received some of the most striking re-recordings on the album. Holo boy. They could be b-sides from Buddy Box with their high-pitched guitar riffs and confident delivery. “Gotta wash away my dreams, today is only tomorrow, and tomorrow is only today,” Amos effectively sings about the latter, “I’ll wash away my dreams.”

Holo boy restless, strange and eccentric, it opens a new chapter in the This Is Lorelei canon that also celebrates travel along the way.
