OLEDs are brighter…and overall better
Historically, OLED as a technology has always lagged behind the best LED TVs when it comes to screen brightness. No more. From 2023 LG Display, an independent division of the iconic South Korean manufacturer that makes screens for both LG and other TV companies, has made huge strides in producing stunningly bright panels.
It all started with excellent LG G3 and its MLA (Micro Lens Array) display and OLED brightness improvements have only gotten more impressive since then. This is the first time we've seen LG's fourth generation display.four stacksOLED panels on CES 2025. And damn, they scorched our corneas.
Back in January, LG announced quad-layer panels similar to its LG G5 And Panasonic Z95B will be able to reach a stunning peak brightness of 4,000 nits – 33% more than in 2024. LG G4. This is made possible by a new quad-layer panel that helps increase light output by sandwiching two blue OLED layers between separate red and green layers.
When it's time to review the LG G5 and Panasonic Z95B, we found LG's 2025 flagship panel to be the brightest we've ever measured. The first one showed a stunning peak brightness of 2268 nits. HDR brightness in Filmmaker mode. Panasonic wasn't far behind, producing an almost equally bright 2,107 nits.
It's important to note that the LG G5 is not only brighter than previous generations, but also much better. Thanks to LG Display's “ultra-low reflectance technology”, the G5 has an anti-glare layer that is 30% more resistant to glare than the G4 – and it commendably achieves this without increasing black levels. Color reproduction is also improved over the 2024 model.
It really has been one hell of a year for key OLED improvements. Thank you, LG Display.
Glare Free says getting rid of reflections
In years past, watching an OLED TV in a bright room could cause serious problems. Chief among them? How annoyingly thoughtful the older generations were. Early OLED panels were practically mirrors in a sunlit living room.
Fortunately, huge improvements have been made for OLED screens with the advent of anti-glare coating. No form of this technology has impressed us more than Samsung's. No glare. A second-generation version of this panel debuted with the 2025 TechRadar TV, a great Samsung S95F. You better believe it's time to say so long to the screen glare.
Not only does it greatly improve on the glare-killing matte screen of older models. Samsung S95Dbut the S95F also surpasses its predecessor, delivering more accurate black levels even in the brightest conditions.

Sony seriously impressed with its Bravia 8 II OLED
2025 was the year Sony doubled the bet upgraded QD-OLED panels. While it may not be as bright as the LG G5 or Samsung S95, the Japanese giant's display is Sony Bravia II still confused us when we reviewed it in June.
Sony says the Bravia II is 150% brighter than the previous Bravia 8 series of OLED displays, and in our testing, the excellent TV delivered peak HDR levels of 1,439 and 1,067 nits in its respective Cinema and Standard modes. Of course, the LG G5 won't give you sleepless nights, but Sony, having introduced improved QD-OLED screens, has made significant improvements over its older W-OLED models.
Add to that the usual exquisite color accuracy you'd expect from a top-tier Sony TV, plus built-in speakers that beat most high-end TVs, and there's no doubt that the Sony Bravia II is one of the most impressive TVs we've reviewed in 2025.
In a four-way confrontation between the flagships, LG and Samsung tied
One of the most exciting OLED events of 2025 happened back in August, when TechRadar pitted the year's most impressive sets against each other in an epic battle. Four-way test of a flagship OLED TV.
It's rare for us to have four top quality OLED panels under one roof to test simultaneously, so when the chance came we couldn't resist. After thorough parallel testing of the Samsung S95F, LG G5, Sony Bravia II and Panasonic Z95B, two winners were revealed. Spoiler: we couldn't separate them.
With the help of several colleagues, TechRadar's James Davidson conducted a blind test, making sure each TV's logo was hidden. The TVs were then numbered 1 through 4, and testers were tasked with rating the TVs on five key parameters: black levels, color, motion handling for fast-paced action movies, motion clarity for sports, and zoom quality.
When it came to black levels, the Samsung S95F was our testers' favorite, thanks in part to its Glare Free 2.0 panel. The S95F also outperformed its competitors when it came to color performance, according to our blind testers, delivering the “most popular” picture.
When it comes to action movies, the Samsung S95F once again comes out on top for delivering the smoothest possible viewing experience for high-octane scenes.
However, it was not a complete victory for the S95F. Our judges voted the LG G5 a winner when it came to zooming, and it tied for first place with the Panasonic Z95B when it came to watching sports.
After all the votes were counted, the Samsung S95F and LG G5 ended up with the same number of votes, scoring a total of 25 points each. This is mainly due to the fact that the LG G5 passed our scaling tests with flying colors.
All in all, it's an epic result and proves that the S95F and G5 are truly the best two OLED TVs we've ever seen.
OLED TVs get great Black Friday deals in 2025

Another of our favorite TVs, the 55-inch Sony Bravia II, has also been marked down by 23%, bringing its original $2,599 MSRP down to $1,998. It was yet another deal that capped off an incredibly tempting year for OLED adapters. Discounts on organic LEDs may continue for a long time.
