Jared Kushner and Russia's ambassador to Washington have discussed the possibility of creating a secret and secure communications channel between the Trump transition team and the Kremlin, using Russian diplomatic capabilities in an apparent move to shield their pre-inauguration discussions from surveillance, according to U.S. officials briefed on the intelligence reports.
Ambassador Sergei Kislyak told his superiors in Moscow that Kushner, President-elect Trump's son-in-law and confidant, made the proposal during a meeting Dec. 1 or 2 at Trump Tower, according to intercepts of Russian communications that were reviewed by U.S. officials. Kislyak said Kushner proposed using Russian diplomatic facilities in the United States for communications.
Michael Flynn, Trump's first national security adviser, also attended the meeting.
