Donald Trump is preparing to visit the Middle East after helping broker a historic peace deal between Israel and Hamas that will end the war in the Gaza Strip. Participants in the discussion Washington Week with The Atlantic joined to discuss the turning point that led to the deal and the likelihood of it happening.
“Trump is the man who put it all together,” Jonathan Karl, chief Washington correspondent for Trump Newspapers. ABC News– they argued last night. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu “built his entire political career on being a man who knew American politics,” Karl added. But as American support for Israel has changed, Netanyahu knows that “he needs the United States more than anything else; Europe may go in a different direction, but he fundamentally needs American support. So when Trump puts pressure on him, it certainly matters.”
