The new year is approaching, which means – among many other things – that it's time to start looking at the Steam charts to predict what's going to happen next with a big surprise. Valvethere will be a platform. We have a strong early candidate in StarRupture, a first-person factory building game that builds on that formula with a stronger focus on combat.
In StarRupture, you play as a prisoner on an alien planet, sent to mine resources and pay off an obscure debt to a galactic corporation. You'll have to build mines, factories, and logistics systems to move goods from place to place, while fighting off local creatures that don't like your presence. Naturally, you can also invite friends to do all this together.
84% positive Reviews on Steam perhaps the most important part of the story. The main gist of the positive answer is that the entire base building and management mechanic compares favorably to games like Factorio and Satisfactory (the latter is perhaps the most relevant comparison, as it separates that game's 3D world from a first-person perspective), but with a greater emphasis on combat and exploration.
Early access to StarRupture will last “about a year,” the developers explain on the store page, and future updates will expand the map, add more wildlife, and improve combat. Developer Creepy Jar has plenty of experience refining the game throughout the Early Access period, as its previous game, the horror-themed survival game Green Hell, received major content updates and gained a large following over the years.
