Nintendo may soon offer two new Switch 2 cartridges for publishers who want a cheaper option to physically run their games.
At the moment, publishers have only two distribution options for the Switch 2 – traditional 64GB console cartridges, game key cards, which are often criticized in game preservation communities, and, of course, pure digital launches. However, it looks like that could be changing if a leak from R-Type Dimensions 3 publisher Inin Games is to be believed, despite the same publisher later retracting their original statement.
ININ Games is retracting its claim for smaller new Switch 2 carts. “There have been no official statements or confirmations from Nintendo regarding cartridge capacity. Any references to specific memory sizes should not be interpreted as official information from Nintendo.”

It appears that Nintendo told Inin Games behind the scenes that new Switch 2 cartridges were on the way, and someone made a fuss and shared it publicly, but that's not necessarily the case. Until we get an official announcement, it's probably best to take this with a grain of salt. However, if Nintendo offered more affordable physical launch options to game developers and publishers, it could be a great solution for game savers, collectors, and people who simply prefer to hold their games in their hands.
