The first big discoveries in Super Mario Galaxy movie trailer was our first look at Princess Rosalina and Bowser Jr., voiced by Brie Larson and Benny Safdie, respectively. But for eagle-eyed Super Mario fans, there were other important details in the form of Easter eggs that reference Nintendo games that aren't there. Super Mario Galaxy.
Here's a rundown of some fun Easter eggs that Nintendo and Illumination have been working on. Super Mario Galaxy movieno doubt there is much more to come.
Bowser sings his theme from Super Mario 64.
At the beginning of the trailer, after Bowser puts the finishing touches on his Scream-Inspired by the painting of Mario from Dry Bones – a reference to the Skeleton Suit from Super Mario Odyssey – He goes upstairs to meet Mario and Luigi. At the same time, he hums a melody: “Drinking soup, cleaning paint, doo-doo-li-doo, doo-doo-li-doo.” Bowser's song is based on his theme from Super Mario 64although it's much more fun.
Mario and Luigi travel to Tostarena from Odyssey.
Talking about OdysseyThe trailer also shows Mario and Luigi riding motorcycles (with a lot of Mad Max energy) to visit the Sand Kingdom, a location in Super Mario Odyssey. This is a pretty obvious reference, and not so much an Easter egg. Additionally, the appearance of the Sand Kingdom in Super Mario Galaxy movie was previously appeared on Old Spice packaging. Expect Mario and Luigi to meet some Tostaranians for story reasons.
Is this Casino Delfino?
At one point in the trailer, we see Princess Peach doing Strong fight against hundreds of ninjas. Wherever she is, it looks like one of the locations inspired by the casinos from the Super Mario series. I choose to believe that my greatest inspiration comes from Super Mario SunshineDelfino Casino, filled with images of slot machines and having a giant roulette wheel instead of a floor. But the glittery setting Peach finds herself in is also reminiscent of Waluigi's pinball tracks from the Mario Kart series and Lucky Houses from the Mario Kart series. Super Mario 3D world.
Wonder Bowser Jr.
When Bowser Jr. first appears in the trailer, he goes from a relatively normal Koopa mode to a full-fledged Marvel mode, looking the same as in The Miracle of Super Mario Bros.. Junior is equipped with a magic brush (from the manufacturer). Sunlight And Bowser's Fury) and uses spotted goo to become the deadly Wonder Bowser Jr.
Oh my god, is this Prowler's music?
One of the more suspicious and intriguing Easter eggs is the sound accompanying Wonder Bowser Jr.'s appearance in the trailer. To me (and many others) the sound effect is very reminiscent of the crunchy music cue from Prowler Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Is this an auditory coincidence or is the Illumination animation team shouting out to their fellow animators at Sony Pictures Animation? Wander Bowser Jr. definitely has some Prowler energy…
Rosalina destroys Megaleg
Perhaps not so much an Easter egg as “drawing from the source material”. The giant tripod that Rosalina easily sends before growing the aura is the Meganode from Super Mario Galaxy. Everything about this scene looks cool, and sometimes that's all it takes.
