You've probably heard about Sonos smart speakers and sound panelswhich offer some of the best sound quality on the market. However, what you may not know is that Sonos also makes excellent Sonos Ace headphones that were released last summer. Right now they are selling for US$279 (originally $449), the lowest price they've ever offered, according to price tracking tools.
The Sonos Ace is soft, comfortable and, thanks to its plastic design, adapts to different head sizes. You get real buttons to control the headphones (as opposed to touch controls), which I personally think is a huge plus. Battery life is impressive: about 30 hours with Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) or Aware mode settings active, or about 40 hours with both settings turned off. Bluetooth multipoint connection means you can connect up to two devices at the same time and easily switch between them.
According to the manufacturer, the headphones work well. “Excellent” PCMag review. The sound is balanced using the in-app EQ control, and the ANC and Aware Mode features are top notch and rival the best headphones on the market. Unfortunately, the Sonos Ace doesn't support Wi-Fi, meaning you can't stream media to them like you can with Sonos speakers, but then again, not many headphones. However, you can connect to Sonos speakers via Bluetooth and listen to media that way (if you have Sonos speakers).
What are your thoughts so far?
At its current price, the Sonos Ace can compete with the best headphones for Apple users. AirPods Maxand the best headphones for Android users, Sony WH-1000XM6and perhaps offer a better price since they are much cheaper. If transparency mode is important to you or you have Sonos speakers in your home, the Sonos Ace headphones are your best choice.
