Enter the lighthouse as the Last Keeper.
AstraInteractiveGames has opened a public playtest of The Last Keeper on Steam, giving players an early chance to enter its eerie world. Anyone can join through the game's Steam page and become part of the growing community. The official trailer offers a first look at the atmosphere the team has created, setting the tone for a story that mixes routine with slowly building fear.
The Last Keeper puts players in the role of a lighthouse keeper whose daily responsibilities gradually shift from simple tasks to the struggle for stability. Each day brings increasing tension, fueled by hunger, violent storms, mechanical problems, strange sounds coming through the fog, and the constant feeling that an unseen presence is watching. Maintaining order in the house and lighthouse becomes necessary. Dirt and neglect affect the character's state of mind, attract unwanted visitors, and interfere with the lighting that keeps ships safe. Survival depends on focus as the environment constantly tests your stamina and sanity.
The story takes inspiration from one of the most disturbing mysteries in maritime history. In December 1900, three lighthouse keepers disappeared from the Flannan Islands without a trace. The Last Keeper bases its fiction on real events, drawing on documents, diary entries, and quotes taken from authentic historical sources. The contributors note works such as Keith McCloskey's book The Lighthouse, official reports of the Northern Lighthouse Board and contemporary articles from The Scotsman published between December 1900 and January 1901. These references form the core of the game's narrative, paying tribute to real people lost over a century ago.
The Last Keeper is planned to be released on Steam, and the team plans to launch it in the first quarter of 2026.
