- iPhone 18 may get an under-display camera
- Rumors about this feature have been circulating for several years.
- Apparently the change is currently being tested by Apple.
All iPhone releases are scheduled for this year, which means we can look to 2026. iPhone 18 – and the latest rumors to surface suggest it could be the phone when Apple finally decides to add a selfie camera under the display.
According to a well-known informant Smart Pikachu (by using Wccftech), Apple is at least testing under-display camera technology for iPhone 18 phones, meaning the display notch could shrink in size or disappear entirely.
If you think this sounds familiar, it's probably because it's rumored to be coming to the iPhone. for many years now. Perhaps 2026 will finally be the year when this actually happens – although, of course, nothing is certain yet.
Other sources also predicted that the under-display Face ID camera is on the table for iPhone 18 phones, so that adds more credibility to this latest leak. We've also heard rumors that Apple is slowly working on full screen iPhone.
Apple won't be first
Other smartphone makers have been experimenting with under-display cameras for years. Perhaps you remember Samsung Galaxy Z foldable 3released in 2021, had an under-display camera on the main 7.6-inch screen.
However, it's worth noting that the camera wasn't particularly good, and Samsung has since abandoned this technology, at least for now. All Galaxy phones released in 2025 have regular selfie cameras, including Samsung Galaxy Z Foldable 7.
While Apple hasn't always been first in industry innovation, it tends to implement new technologies better than most or all of its competitors. Touch ID and Face ID could be two examples of this, and foldable iPhone It may well be different.
Well-placed sources have suggested that Apple might shake things up iPhone release schedule next year: Pro models will arrive in September, and the standard iPhone 18 will arrive in March 2026. When these phones arrive, keep an eye on the cameras.
