On Monday Interception Published a classified internal document AnB Noting that Russian military intelligence included a hacking operation of at least one supplier of software for voting in the United States, which provided software related to voter registration files for several months before the last year’s presidential competition. Earlier it was reported that Russia was trying to hack voter registration systems, but this Anb document contains detailed information about how one such operation.
According to Interception:
The leading document of the National Security Agency, which was anonymously provided with interception and independently authentication, analyzes intelligence, which was recently acquired by the agency for about months of the Cyber-ultimate of Russian intelligence against elements of the elements of the infrastructure of the elections in the United States and voting. The report dated May 5, 2017 is the most detailed US government about Russian elections that have not yet been identified.
Although the document provides a rare window in the understanding of the NSA of the mechanics of Russian hacking, it does not show the main “raw” intelligence on which the analysis is based. The US intelligence officer who refused to identify himself, warned against drawing too much withdrawal from the document, because one analysis is not necessarily final.
The report indicates that Russian hacking could penetrate the US voting systems, which is previously understandable. In his brief statement, he claims that it was Russian military intelligence, in particular, the General Directorate of the General Staff of Russia, or the GRU, which conducted cyber attacks described in the document:
General State General State General Station Main Intelligence Directorate of Actors … performed cyber-spying operations against the named American company in August 2016, obviously, to get information about software and hardware solutions related to the elections. … Actors probably used the data obtained as a result of this operation to … launch a spear production campaign on the topics of registration of voters, intended for organizations of local self -government of the United States.
