In December 2020 AZ cancer support community went to the director of the gallery Michael Denson About the new exhibition. “It was an exciting concept in which the artists were given radiation masks of patients with cancer and instructed to create works of art based on the story of the patient,” says Denson Popsugar. “During our initial planning, my father and sister both suffered from the diagnosis and treatment of cancer.” During a visit to his sister, Denson noticed a radiation mask sitting in the corner of her room, and asked if he could use it at the upcoming exhibition. “She kindly agreed, leaving me the words:“ It reminds me of what I went through. ” I returned with her radiation mask, deciding to capture her story when I saw that she was playing out, continuing her battle. ”
Denson used acrylic and ink on a tree for the final part called “Pushing” – a tribute to his sister. “Like a beautiful climbing lotus, stretching, making her way through dirty waters, she pushed. Through sadness, disappointment, isolation, pain, disappointment and countless unknown, she pushed, ”he says. “Unfortunately, she lost her battle with cancer. But her story remains. She taught us how to continue to fight, for a family, for love, for life. She taught us to break through the dark waters and bloom in the light. ”
