The habs once again slaughtered in front of their fans

After losing to the Blues on Sunday night, the Habs returned to action tonight as the Tampa Bay Lightning came to town.

Jakub Dobes was back in goal for the Habs.

Here is the lineup, unchanged from the last game:

The Lightning, meanwhile, were left without Andrei Vasilevsky, so Jonas Johansson found himself in front of the visitors' goal.

Here is the lineup that John Cooper sent into battle:

The Lightning hadn't played in their last two games before coming to Montreal… and it's clear they wanted to end this terrible streak as quickly as possible.

It didn't take Brayden Point three minutes to open the scoring, taunting Jayden Struble.

Then, in the next few minutes, Pontus Holmberg was forgotten when he came out of the box… and found himself on a breakaway.

This allowed him to double his team's lead.

And in the final minutes of the period, the Habs played horribly in their own zone, leaving Nikita Kucherov completely alone.

The Russian scored his team's third goal.

After 20 minutes, the score became 3:0 in favor of the Lightning.

In the second period, Samuel Montembeault took Dobs' place in front of goal… but it didn't matter much: he missed a goal on the first shot he saw.

Quebecer Charles-Edouard D'Astous scored the goal.

The good news is that the Hubs showed signs of life at the end of the period. They took advantage of the power play and scored their first goal of the game.

Oliver Kapanen pounced on the puck in front of the net, completing a beautiful sequence started by Ivan Demidov and Nick Suzuki.

After 40 minutes the score was 4-1 in favor of the Lightning.

The Habs looked to take advantage early in the third… but the Lightning made sure to keep them from getting back into the game.

Darren Raddysh scored his team's fifth goal from a tight angle.

A few minutes later, Arber Czekay's penalty returned the Lightning to the power play.

This allowed Raddysh to score his second goal of the period.

The last minutes of the match passed in front of half-empty stands. At the end of the game, the fans once again applauded (with derision) Montembeault's major saves.

Josh Anderson also dropped the gloves with Scott Sabourin late in the game.

Final score: 6-1 Tampa Bay

The Canadiens return to action Thursday night when they travel to Pittsburgh to take on the Penguins.

Extension

– Once again, Hubs suffered heavy defeat at the Bell Center. Unfortunately, these games have come and gone over the past few weeks. And it doesn't matter who the starting goalkeeper is: the club gives away tons of goals at home.

“These two episodes sum up today's Habs game.”

Hehe.

– Victor Hedman left the game after the first period and did not return after that. So the Habs faced a team with only five defensemen for 40 minutes… and still lost.

– On a slightly more positive note.

– What do you think?
