The Habs lose to the Blues and Logan Mailloux

The Canadiens played their second game in 48 hours tonight, hosting the St. Louis Blues for the second time this week.

The Habs recalled Kaapo Kahkonen before the game.and Samuel Montembault was absent due to illness. Jakub Dobes had to defend the Habs goal.

Here is the lineup for today's game:

Although the Habs got off to a strong start, it was the visitors who got on the scoreboard first on the power play as captain Brayden Schenn scored his fifth goal of the season with help from Cam Fowler and Dylan Holloway.

However, Montreal tied the game a few minutes later when Lane Hutson foiled Jordan Binnington with help from Zachary Bolduc and Jared Davidson.

Cole Caufield then gave the Habs the lead with less than a minute to play in the first period with his 16th goal of the season. Nick Suzuki and Noah Dobson had assists in the game.

After 20 minutes the score was 2-1 in favor of the Canadiens, who dominated shots 11-4.

Unfortunately, the Habs' fine effort was ruined when the team allowed two goals in less than 40 seconds to start the second.

Firstly, Holloway's goal as Schenn returned the favor. Defenseman Colton Parayko added the assist.

Pavel Buchnevich then restored the Blues' lead by beating Dobs with help from Robert Thomas and Justin Faulk. It was the young goalkeeper's third goal in just six shots.

However, the third goal seemed to put the Montrealers ahead, who had plenty of chances to score, especially on the power play, but faced a very strong Binnington for the remainder of the period.

Despite the home team's 18-9 advantage in shots, the Blues led 3-2 after two periods.

It was the guests who got the first scoring chances in the third period, rushing around the Montreal zone.

Although the Canadiens began to look more convincing a few minutes later, Schenn scored his second goal of the game, doubling his team's lead. Holloway and Mathieu Joseph were accomplices of their captain.

The Habs then dared to pull their goalie with over five minutes to play and the gamble paid off as Noah Dobson cut the deficit to one goal with help from Mike Matheson and Ivan Demidov.

However, it was too late for the Montrealers.

Final score: Canadiens lost 4-3.

Unfortunately, the Habs' good performance in the first two periods was spoiled by a rather ordinary third period when the game was still within the team's reach.

Moreover, after his good work yesterday, Dobs was irrelevant tonight while his opponent, Binnington, gave his team a chance to win the game.

The Canadiens will soon have a chance to bounce back as their next game is on Tuesday, December 9th at 7:00 pm when the Tampa Bay Lightning visit the Bell Centre.
