The Habs end its weekend with three points out of a possible four

After last night's Rangers, the Canadiens played their second game in two nights, this time against the Oilers.

After two straight starts for Jacob Fowler, Jakub Dobes returned in goal.

Here are the ingredients:

There were no goals scored in the first period, but Montreal was perfect on the power play (3/3).

The Oilers had a two-minute power play early in the game, but Dobs was reliable.

This gave the home team momentum. What a sequence from the quartet.

Brendan Gallagher thought he had scored but the referee quickly disallowed his goal.

On the power play he skated the puck into the net.

The Habs returned to the power play in the second period.

This time Calvin Picard was beaten. What a shot by Ivan Demidov!

Then Connor McDavid proved that he is human.

He gave a nice Christmas present to Joe Veleno, who couldn't have asked for more.

Unlike the Oilers, Montreal was much more opportunistic with the player advantage.

For the second time that night, Juraj Slafkowski and Lane Hutson had assists for their teammates in 5-on-4 play.

This time Nick Suzuki took advantage.

Edmonton closed the gap, but Alexandre Texier restored his team's three-goal advantage.

He really saved his career in the metropolis.

Final score: 4-1 Montreal.

Montreal returns to action Tuesday night against the Flyers at the Bell Centre. Now the question is: which goalkeeper will be in goal? Back to Dobs, who stopped 27 of 28 shots tonight? Samuel Montembault, who won't play on Tuesday for a week? Or two-game NHL veteran Jacob Fowler, who was great in Pittsburgh but struggled a little in New York?

To be seen.

Extension

– At the end of the game, Mike Matheson played 4:38 minutes and maintained the lead. What a warrior!

– Still. He later added another assist, so he is now 59 years old.

– He played a strong game.

– Yes, he plays good hockey.

– “Montreal” missed several breaks…

– More fear than harm.
