The Habs blow a 3-0 lead to lose to the Rangers

The Canadiens will conclude their two-game road trip tonight with a visit to Madison Square Garden to take on the Rangers.

Here are the starting lineups for both teams:

Rangers made a strong start to the game but Jacob Fowler looked to shut the door on the home side.

It wasn't until the twelfth minute into the first that the Habs made their first shot, but the wait was worth it as Zachary Bolduc scored on that first shot with help from Nick Suzuki and Cole Caufield.

Less than two minutes later, Arber Czekai scored his first goal of the season on the Habs' second shot. Both Alexander, Carrier and Texier earned assists during the game.

Then it was Jake Evans' turn to get on the scoreboard with help from Lane Hutson and Joe Veleno.

Unfortunately, the Canadiens' excellent start was overshadowed by Hutson's penalty, his first of the season, which allowed the Rangers to open the scoring.

Noah Laba beat Fowler to score his fifth goal of the season with help from Will Kyle and Conor Sheary.

Then, at the end of the period, Artemi Panarin converted a penalty, which scored the second goal for the home team.

3-2 in favor of the Habs after one period.

Although the visitors failed to capitalize on an early power play, Josh Anderson scored his club's fourth goal. Houston and Suzuki also had assists.

However, the Canadiens returned to their bad habits, giving up two quick goals to their opponents in just 35 seconds.

First, Will Kyle thwarted Fowler with the help of Matthew Robertson and Noah Laba.

Captain JT Miller then equalized, with Robertson and Sheary adding their second assists of the game.

These two goals seemed to dampen the spirits of the visitors, who were much less convincing for the rest of the period.

After 40 minutes of play the score is 4:4.

It was Rangers who had the best chance early in the third period and although they thought they had taken the lead for the first time in the game, the goal was disallowed.

The Canadiens began to look more convincing midway through the third period, but were unable to take the lead, as were the Rangers.

The game went into overtime.

After the two teams traded scoring chances, the Habs were unfortunately awarded a penalty, which allowed the Rangers to take the win thanks to JT's second goal of the game. Miller's second goal of the game.

Once again, two quick Habs goals showed that the Habs' defensive shortcomings are not just due to poor goaltending, and that the club must learn to avoid those mental mistakes that too often result in goals for their opponents.

The Canadiens managed to pick up a point tonight even though those two goals could have really hurt the team, and while Fowler didn't have a great game, he made sure to give his team a chance to stay in the game.

Next up for the Habs is a visit to the Oilers and Connor McDavid at the Bell Center on Sunday night.
