Samsung may be working on improving camera performance: leaked code hints at a video version of its already released photo softening option for Samsung's next flagship.
Android authority recently discovered code in One UI 8.5's Camera Assistant blocking module suggests a Video Softening option may be in the works to address the need for a video assistance feature.
To add some context, the Camera Assistant app already offers an image softening option that allows users to reduce harsh details to create smoother, more natural photos with less harshness. From here, users can also turn off, medium or high the softening effect to adjust the intensity.
The new setting will allow users to adjust the speed and sensitivity of the camera's autofocus. There's also a sensitivity shift feature that controls how quickly the autofocus switches between subjects as they enter or leave the frame, as well as a transition speed that controls how quickly the refocus moves.
This feature may be introduced in the upcoming Galaxy S26 series as the customization is currently not included in One UI 8.5 Beta 2 for Galaxy S25.
Android authority noted that Samsung may be positioning the Galaxy S26 Ultra for both camera enthusiasts and professionals who will be able to take advantage of the new features. However, we'll likely know more when the device debuts.
