The Five: What's ahead in pop culture this week

1. TV: Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony (November 8, Disney+)

This year's inductees include rock bands Bad Company, Soundgarden and The White Stripes, hip-hop duo Outkast, and singers Chubby Checker, Joe Cocker and Cyndi Lauper. Another hip-hop duo, Salt-N-Pepa, will receive a special award along with Wrecking Crew bassist Carol Kaye and others. While the list of specific performers is, as always, being kept secret, we do know that Elton John will take the stage to pay tribute to Beach Boys founder Brian Wilson, who died in June at the age of 82. The ceremony will be broadcast live from the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles.

2. MOVIE: Frankenstein (November 7, Netflix)

This take on Mary Shelley's 1818 novel comes from writer and director Guillermo del Toro, a man who has a knack for finding the humanity in his onscreen monsters. Oscar Isaac plays Victor Frankenstein, a scientist who uses spare body parts to create the Creature (Jacob Elordi). In a conversation with Postmedia's Chris Knight, del Toro explained his approach to the Thing's aesthetic. “A lot of the iconography of Frankenstein is almost like accident victims coming out of the ICU with a bunch of stuff patched up,” he said. “And I wanted if he was making a quilt, an anatomical quilt, he would make it beautiful.”

3. MUSIC: Finger Eleven (November 7)

Last Night on Earth is Finger Eleven's first album of new music in a decade. The 10-track collection from the Burlington, Ontario rock band includes last year's single Adrenaline. “When we recorded Last Night on Earth, it felt like we were making a big rock album,” guitarist Rick Jackett said in a statement. “We did it early in our career and then deviated from it. But it's time to come back and embrace this bigness of the sound.” Finger Eleven is currently touring with fellow Canadian bands The Tea Party and Headstones.

4. BOOK: “Harry Potter: Complete Audio Editions”

JK Rowling's books are getting new life thanks to a deluxe series of Audible recordings. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone was released on November 4th, and a new audiobook will be released every month. The recordings feature Dolby Atmos sound, new music and performances from more than 200 actors. They include Cush Jumbo as the narrator, Hugh Laurie as Albus Dumbledore, Matthew Macfadyen as Lord Voldemort and Riz Ahmed as Professor Snape. Kit Harington is Professor Lockhart and Keira Knightley is Professor Umbridge. Frankie Treadaway (Harry Potter), Max Lester (Ron Weasley) and Arabella Stanton (Hermione Granger) lead the cast of the first three books.

5. CELEBRATION: Memorial Day (November 11).

The hostilities of the First World War ended in 1918, at 11 o'clock on the 11th day of the 11th month. Honor those who have sacrificed their lives for our freedoms by observing two minutes of silence, wearing a poppy, or attending a local Remembrance Day ceremony or parade. Canadian networks such as Global, CBC and CTV are planning coverage, including coverage of the National Remembrance Day ceremony at the National War Memorial in Ottawa. The ceremony will begin at approximately 10:30 a.m. local time and will be streamed live on the Royal Canadian Legion's Facebook page.
