Drive faster, she screams in a cacophony of pitiful sounds, it’s coming! I know, lady standing on her head, I know, I hear from behind the wheel. We would have been safe if I hadn't missed one of the turns and crashed carefully into a low wall. My best bet is to stand my ground if I want to avoid showing off Truckful's mysterious delivery driver without finding out what happens when a small truck gets swallowed up by a big truck.
That's the kind of mystery that Truckful's journey through scenic forest lanes and trails promises. Another mystery is how you, the player, ended up stuck in the cab of a brave pickup truck forever. The game tries to play this episode off as a joke. To be fair, the rather short and linear demo is meant to continue the quick stretch of day and night trucking it offers without delving too deeply into any of the puzzles.
Assuming the rest of the game follows suit, your time when Sunrise in Truckful is spent making deliveries to various locations. I had to pick up a woman named Rotty whose van had broken down. I pulled over and loaded her and her cargo into the bed of my pickup truck. There's good physics to pack seven objects into just four slots, and amidst the precarious balancing, I find that I can turn objects upside down. I need to pack Rotty in the back too, so decide to put her on her butt. She doesn't seem to mind.
Truckful's side camera and narrow, windy roads aren't too challenging if your only obstacle is the occasional herd of sheep blocking the road, but they're challenging enough to punish inattention. My racing instincts kicked in at one point as I was going down a hill, and the resulting bouquet of flowers flying out of the back of the truck instantly failed the mission and sent me back to the previous checkpoint.
Delivering the goods to the old lady's garage was paid for by her restoring the truck's lights and horn, allowing me and Rotty to go out into the night. Rotty now decided to sit directly in the passenger seat, which was a bit disappointing. Just as the darkness made the cool forest atmosphere of the game really sing, there was a loud noise behind us. A haunting horn, somewhere between an air raid siren that needs to be blown and the mournful cry of a cargo ship. Ghost truck. Despite having to haul ass, which made the gentle turns even more difficult to navigate, I was on track to easily pass the beast until I made a mistake. The fact that I survived and was able to reopen the breach out of the forest fairly quickly probably suggests that the Revenant setup will have to up its game to become a threat.
However, this was just a brief overview of Truckful, so there's a good chance that's true. I'm still not sure if the game has anything to offer in terms of deep mystery content beyond the initial ghostly semi-intrigue, but what I played certainly didn't lack charm or a cool driving atmosphere.
Truckful is scheduled to release in 2026, and you can find this new demo on its website. Steam Page.
