Written and illustrated by Bill Watterson, the syndicated comic earned legions of fans and widespread critical acclaim over a 10-year run (1985–1995) in newspapers across the United States and abroad. If you grew up stealing your parents' comics section of the newspaper to read the humorous and educational adventures of Calvin and his stuffed Tiger, check out Amazon's offer before it runs out.
The Complete Calvin and Hobbes Edition includes all the Calvin and Hobbes comics and three premium hardcover books. In total, you get 1,440 pages of comics, some in color, others in black and white. The included case features one of the illustrations most associated with Calvin and Hobbes.
I have owned this set for many years and can attest to its quality. The comics are printed on thick art paper and the binding holds up well. Fair warning, though: the premium materials make these books quite heavy. With all three books in the case, you have 22 pounds worth of comics, so each book weighs approximately 7.3 pounds.

The paperback edition contains 1,456 pages, but the entire run is divided into four volumes instead of three. If you're buying a collection for a younger reader, this is probably the best option. While the complete box set still weighs 17.75 pounds, each book weighs approximately 4.3 pounds. And because there are 100 fewer pages per volume, they're easier to hold for children and adults with smaller hands.
The case features a different but also well-known illustration of Calvin and Hobbes dancing happily.
Budget versions of B2G1 are free.
Along with discounts on The Complete Book of Calvin and Hobbes, Amazon offers inexpensive paperbacks and box sets, and some are included in Amazon B2G1 Book Free Sale. The discount is available on several different titles, including original trade paperbacks, the Treasury Collection, and the ongoing Portable Compendium series.
Each portable collection kit includes two paperback books and a case to store them. Collection Sets 1, 3 and 4 are eligible for the B2G1 Free Promotion. The Core Collection of Calvin and Hobbes Treasures The paperback is also included in the promotion, along with select volumes of original trade paperbacks.
Calvin and Hobbes Portable Compendium Series
Andrews McMeel Publishing will begin republishing the series in a travel-friendly format in 2023. As mentioned, five sets have been published so far, with a sixth planned for March 3, 2026. The Portable Compendium series will end with Issue 7, which is not yet available for pre-order.

Calvin and Hobbes Treasure Collection:
These are essentially greatest hits compilations from the first half of Calvin and Hobbes' syndicated run. The first Treasury Collection, The Essential Calvin and Hobbes, is on sale in B2G1, while The Authoritative Calvin and Hobbes is over 50% off.
Original trade paperback editions of Calvin and Hobbes
Many of the original 14 trade paperback editions are discounted by around 50%, but at the time of writing only volume 14 is participating in the B2G1 promotion.
Calvin and Hobbes, at least according to Amazon, is recommended for ages 10 and up, which makes sense in some ways. I read Calvin and Hobbes when I first learned to read in kindergarten, and many other longtime fans probably did too. It's not so much that the content is unsuitable for early readers, but what makes Calvin and Hobbes so great is his wit. The cleverness and social commentary may fly over young readers. I came to appreciate Calvin and Hobbes even more when I read it as an adult.
Adults who love Calvin and Hobbes should consider picking up the phone. Bill Watterson's latest work, The Secrets, is only $8 in hardcover. on Amazon. Mysteries is very different from Calvin and Hobbes, but it is a fun illustrated fable for adult readers.
