For the first time since 2016 The Canadiens have 20 wins before Christmas. Crazy, huh?
Of course, there was the pandemic and recovery to deal with. But, despite everything, this is still a great result, showing the progress of the Canadiens.
Despite the ups and downs, the club took upon itself this is a step forward year.
You can see this by looking at the standings. The Canadiens currently sit seventh in the NHL and fourth in the East. The Hurricanes and Red Wings are just two points ahead of the Habs.
If Martin St. Louis' men end up winning the game over the Red Wings, the Atlantic will be tied on points.

Obviously, it's night and day compared to last year. The 2024-25 Canadiens may have made the playoffs, but it took a huge end to the season to get there.
We remember how bad it all started. Meanwhile, at this time last year, the Habs had just 31 points in 34 games.
This year the Montreal club has 45 points in 37 matches. The Olympic calendar means more games have been played than this time last year, but the points percentage doesn't lie.
A big .608 versus a weak .456 is night and day.

If the Canadiens keep up their momentum, they'll be fine. Philip Danault will help stabilize the defense and we'll see if more reinforcements follow in the coming months.
We'll have to wait and see… but one thing is for sure: the forwards will have to continue to produce if we want things to go well.
