The Canadiens defeat the Jets in a shootout

After a tough loss to the Senators last night, the Habs returned to action tonight as the Winnipeg Jets came to town.

And on this occasion, Martin Saint-Louis stirred the cauldron. Juraj Slafkowski is on the first line, Alexandre Texier is on the second and Zachary Bolduc is on the fourth: the lineup looked different today.

This is what it looked like:

As for the Jets, the team went to Montreal without Connor Hellebuyck, and the star goalie was sidelined with an injury.

Here is the lineup of visitors:

Before the game, a ceremony was held to honor Andrei Markov… and the crowd warmly welcomed the defender.

Here's the full ceremony for those who missed it:

Then the game started, and the first few minutes were pretty quiet… until Adam Lowry called it a day.

The Jets captain hit Alexander Carrier hard, and Arber Csekaj went to defend his teammate. This will benefit the sheriff's confidence.

But in the minutes that followed, it was the Jets who opened the scoring.

Mark Scheifele, a much-maligned Montreal player, scored the first goal of the game.

After 20 minutes the Jets led 1–0.

But on the second occasion, the Habs hit back. The club's power play, which has picked up steam recently, is back on track.

This time the goal was scored by Juraj Slafkovski.

However, soon after, the Canadiens found themselves in their own zone and without a stick.(Slavic he was no longer there).

And as fate would have it, Kyle Connor restored the Jets' lead.

But, despite everything, the hubs fought back again. This time the line of Ivan Demidov came to the fore, who played beautifully on the corner and passed the puck to Oliver Kapanen.

And Kapanen scored a beautiful goal.

After 40 minutes the score became 2:2.

It was the third period in which both clubs had chances, but the goalkeepers were strong.

Jakub Dobes, in particular, acted confidently on several occasions.

After 60 minutes the score was 2:2. Therefore, we needed additional time.

The Canadiens had a great opportunity with Ivan Demidov, Oliver Kapanen and Lane Hutson on the ice… but those three children tried too many passes.

That's why we needed a shootout.

Cole Caufield scoredthen Kyle Connor was upset by Jakub Dobes.

Alexandre Texier(yes yes) missed the target, then Mark Scheifele could not score.

Nick Suzuki was upset by Eric Comrie, then Gabe Vilardi hit the post.

The Habs won the shootout.

Final score: 3:2 Montreal (TDB)

The Canadiens return to action Saturday night when they travel to Toronto to take on the Maple Leafs. Once again, this is the start of the “two games in two nights” series.

Advanced

“The first Habs lineup tonight was very solid. Martin Saint-Louis decided to create a winning formula, and it paid off. I have a feeling these three guys will be back together for a while.

“Cole Caufield… passerby?”

– The line formed by Ivan Demidov, Oliver Kapanen and Alexandre Texier was very effective on the ice tonight. We felt that Texier, a talented player, was finally able to unleash his game speaks for itself along with the two young men… and we can guess that this line deserves another audition for the next game. These two young players were especially good today.

– This is very encouraging.

– Eric Comrie was very, very solid in front of the Jets goal today. Almost made you forget about Hellebuyck, hehe.
