No haircut says “new beginning” like a chunky bob. If you've ever abandoned your long layers (or even sharpened quit) for this ultra-edgy haircut, you know how powerful the reset can be. And if you've always liked the look but never really committed to it, now is the perfect time to follow through.
“I think swings will always be in trend,” says the famous stylist. Chris McMillan– inspirer”Rachel(Jennifer Aniston's layered haircut that defined the '90s) and most recently, “Leslie Bibb”dude little bob» for the third season White Lotus. “The straight bob is a true haircut that always looks great… neat and classic,” he says.

As for why straight bobs are so popular right now, aside from our remaining Bibb craze? “After years of shag haircuts, heavy texture and lively layers, people are moving towards stronger shapes with clean lines,” says Sean Michaelowner Beautiful Salon. “The blunt bob removes damaged, fine ends, makes hair appear thicker and fuller, and creates a defined, face-framing outline.”
Below, experts share everything you need to know before giving yourself a straight bob, including how to ask for one, how to choose the perfect length for your face, and celebrity-approved style tips.

How to ask for a bob haircut
Precision is key when cutting a blunt bob. Ask for sharp, straight ends and make sure your stylist takes into account your unique hair features. “Keep a very close eye on the pile and growth pattern,” advises McMillan; this will provide a balanced and even final look that will be easier to create yourself. Another tip from a pro: “Avoid stress when cutting and cut freehand instead.” You can see this method in action in clip shared by McMillan of Bibb's haircut: While cutting, he lets her hair hang naturally rather than holding it taut. “In turn, this technique creates this architectural form,” he says.
If you are considering a short bob haircut, you should also plan regular pruning to keep it fresh. While softer or layered cuts may grow out more gradually due to differences in weight distribution, Michael says blunt ends require more frequent attention: “As they grow out, even a little length can soften the line and change shape, so most clients need trims every six to eight weeks to keep the edge clean and balanced.” Softer or layered cuts grow more gradually because the weight is distributed throughout the hair.
What hair type goes best with a straight bob?
Since the haircut is quite simple in design, the blunt bob suits a wide variety of textures. But some hair types may be better candidates for showing off their sharp, defined edges.
