Heaters come in different shapes and sizes and use different elements to heat a room. We're here to help you find the perfect clothes for winter.

Heater price

Most electric heaters that operate solely in this function (and not as a dual air purifier) are priced under $150, with many of the models on this list costing under $100. A few small, well-established budget models can even cost you less than $50. The size of the unit, additional features, number of settings, and heating element all contribute to the overall cost of the heater.

Heater size

There are no standard sizes or shapes for electric heaters, and most of the heaters I researched did not list square footage of coverage, other than to mention their ability to heat a “small to medium-sized” room or specify the type of space such as a bedroom or office. Heaters may come as tabletop, floor-standing, or bathroom models, and many are also tall but narrow “tower” models that may or may not oscillate, have a smaller footprint, and therefore a smaller horizontal footprint.

Types of heaters

While this list only includes electric heaters (as opposed to water or oil heated models), there are several different mechanisms that electric heaters can use to create heated air.

Forced fan: Forced-vent heaters circulate air by drawing it into the unit and passing it through a heating element, usually metal coils, displacing the heated air through exhaust vents in the unit.

Infrared: Infrared lamps convert electricity into radiant heat. This is the least common type among the heaters we included here, but it is no less effective.

Ceramics: Ceramic heaters use electricity to heat a ceramic plate inside the device, which then emits radiant heat into the air with or without the additional use of a fan.
