While the world is keenly watching the return of Tom Holland as the lovable wall-crawling menace in Spider-Man: New Day, there is still talk of the return of another Peter who lent out his hand and web in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Ever since Tobey Maguire returned to action as the original Spider-Man from Sam Raimi's trilogy, fans have been eagerly waiting to see him break his back once again in his fourth film with his former co-star and that universe's Mary Jane. Kirsten Dunst has even expressed interest in telling the story of the older Spidey. Now, another creative force has shown its enthusiasm to give this proposed legacy strength: Batman and Batman: Part II screenwriter Mattson Tomlin has also offered to get in on the action.
Back in July, Tomlin openly stated on X that he would be interested in bringing web writer Maguire's fourth chapter to life. “Honestly, my main interest right now in this regard would be to write Spider-Man 4, where Toby the Spider-Man combines being a husband and a father,” he explained. “Spider-Man as a father is something I've gravitated towards given the last 8 films.”

Fast forward to now: A fan reached out to Tomlin to see how his dream project was going, and things certainly sounded promising. “Slow and steady wins the race. This won’t be talked about for a long time (if ever!) because it involves a lot of people and politics and the right things that have nothing to do with me, but I haven’t gotten a no yet!”

It's still very early days, and Tomlin is obviously having a lot of fun working on it, even if it doesn't come to fruition. Regardless, bringing Maguire back to the world he saved three times wouldn't be such a wild idea, and one that fans would undoubtedly support if given the chance. Consider rumors that the original web-head could appear in future Marvel films, and now is the perfect time for this friendly neighborhood Spider-Man to fight another day.
