Texas trooper sent home after confronting South Carolina player during game | College football

A Texas A trooper who confronted Knick Harbor in South Carolina after a punter's touchdown on Saturday was sent home from the game, according to the state Department of Public Safety.

Harbor scored on an 80-yard reception in the second quarter and then went into the tunnel after appearing to recover from a leg injury. As he and three of his teammates, including running back Oscar Adaway III, were returning to the field, a soldier walked between Harbor and Adaway and came across them.

The soldier pointed to Harbor and Adway, apparently wanting to reproach them. A teammate quickly pushed Harbor away as they continued walking toward the field.

“This A&M cop needs to be suspended! It was intentional and corny! He went out of his way to start some shit. Do better, man.” posted by James on X.

The Texas Department of Public Safety, which employs the trooper, released a statement saying he was sent home from Texas A&M's home stadium, Kyle Field.

“Our Office of Inspector General is also aware of the incident and will continue to investigate. No additional information will be released at this time,” the statement said.

South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer said he was glad action was taken against the soldier.

“I have a lot of respect for the people here in College Station,” Beamer said after the game. “It's just a top-notch operation, everything. From a gaming standpoint, they're really doing a great job. They're top-notch people, so appreciate that they're handling it right by sending [the trooper] house.”

Texas A&M up 27 points to complete wonderful victory with a score of 31-30 over South Carolina to remain undefeated this season. Harbor left the game in the fourth quarter after suffering a suspected chest injury when another player landed on him while he was making a catch. Beamer said the 20-year-old was taken to the hospital as a precaution, accompanied by his father Gene, a former professional soccer player who won 15 caps for the U.S. men's national team.

Fancy Harbor won 2023 Franklin D. Watkins Memorial Awardaward recognizing African-American high school seniors who have excelled in athletics, academics and philanthropic endeavors. In addition to his football career, Harbor won national titles in track and field, volunteered at a soup kitchen and worked with Generosity Global, which campaigns to improve women's health in Africa. Harbor is a public health major and has been named to the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Academic Honor Roll for two years in a row.
