Quintrevion Wisner had his best game of the season against Oklahoma.
Saturday Texas The Longhorns looked like a different team.. After a disappointing loss a week earlier to Florida Longhorns firing on all cylinders in the Red River shootout. Although many players have made an impact, healthy Quintrevion Wisner was the highlight of the game in the backfield, sparking a 23-6 offense.
The Glenn Heights native had a season-high 94 yards on 22 carries. The Longhorns' star running back averaged 4.3 yards per carry as the starting back. However, that wasn't the only way he made his presence known at the Cotton Bowl.
The talented junior also caught five passes for 34 yards. He finished the day in a draw with Ryan Wingo for leading the team at receptions. When the Longhorns won their first conference game of the year, Wisner ranked third on the team in rushing yards, behind only Wingo and DeAndre Moore Jr.
For the Longhorns, Wisner's play was a welcome sign. He was the team's leading running back last year, setting career highs in yards and carries. Injuries limited his opportunities during the first month of the season, but against Oklahoma, Wisner showed just how good he can be when healthy. As Texas looks to bounce back from a slow start, it will need Wisner to stay healthy and help balance the offense.
With five games under his belt, Wisner now ranks second on the team in rushing yards with 185. He's second only to Arch Manning, which shows how bad the running game has been. If Wisner is healthy, he could take first place as early as next week.
While the Longhorns still have a few issues to work out, getting Wisner back to top form would be a significant boost for the offense. He can change the game with his legs and take the pressure off Manning. Wisner will be able to build on his success next week when Texas faces Kentucky.
