Republican Sen. Ted Cruz warned his party of “political danger” in 2026 if the GOP does not take the No Kings protests seriously.
“Certainly we have to take political danger seriously,” Cruz said on Monday on Bloomberg Television. “I think it's bad for America when one of our two major political parties has become as extreme and extreme as the Democrats. It's a party that is united by their hatred of Donald Trump.”
While the first half of Cruz's warning was the same hyperbolic rhetoric pushed by the GOP about No Kings being an antifa meeting, the second half rang surprisingly true.
“As for the 2026 midterm elections, this is dangerous…Essentially, Republicans have a lot to campaign on,” he continued, citing things like reducing illegal border crossings and releasing Israeli hostages. “That being said… there's a lot of energy, a lot of anger on the left, and elections can be dangerous when one side is mobilized, angry. I'll tell you from a fundraising standpoint: Democrats are raising a lot more money because their radicals hate Trump so much. And look, angry, energetic voters are showing up to vote. And I'm only worried about the regular voters who are happy or complacent, who say, 'Oh God, Trump won.' I’m fine, I don’t need to come and vote.” There is no doubt that if one side shows up and the other doesn't, it will lead to bad elections.”

Even as they exaggerate and misrepresent the interests of Democrats (whose leadership is decidedly left-of-center at best), Cruz's point shows that Republicans are paying attention to the size and scope of No Kings rallies. But they still can't seem to understand why everyone is so unhappy with President Trump.
