Ted Cruz Has a Good Guess as to When the Schumer Shutdown Is Likely to End, and Why – RedState

The Schumer shutdown has been going on for over a month.

It began Oct. 1, and the Senate won't be able to vote on it again until Tuesday at the earliest.

The extended closure raises concerns, particularly about Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) funding and how it could impact air travel.

Fox News Channel's Maria Bartiromo asked Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) on Sunday if he thought the government would reopen this week because the shutdown is “severely impacting the U.S. economy.” Cruz had a reasonable idea of when things might end and why.

“I think it will most likely open on Wednesday or Thursday of this week,” he said.

Democrats will wait until Election Day because they believe the shutdown is good for activating the crazies in their party. But I think it will be either late this week or early next week.”

I think that's a pretty reasonable estimate. The whole point of this exercise seemed to be to pump up the leftist base, to try to convince them that the Democrats were somehow “fighting” for them. If they get people out of the game and can come away with victories, even if they were in areas where they were already leading, they can say, “Hey, look, guys, we beat them,” and convince the left that they did something. This gives them something of an opportunity to argue.

They probably think this will help them in Virginia, where there are a lot of federal employees, and then they can all come out to vote. May be. But federal workers and other Virginians may also realize that Democrats are behind the shutdown. We've seen Republicans actually gain approval since the shutdown started. We saw the largest union of federal employees, the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE), calling on everyone to vote for a clean CR and open up the government.

As with many things with Democrats, this could backfire on them.

It says something about Democrats, too, if that's their motivation: They're more concerned about their own power than how these kinds of political games will affect people who aren't getting paid, people receiving SNAP benefits, people who might otherwise suffer from the shutdown, and the detrimental effects on the economy.

That's entirely plausible given what we've seen from Democrats.

Editor's Note: The Schumer shutdown is already here. Instead of putting the American people first, Chuck Schumer and the Radical Democrats forced the government to shut down health care to illegal immigrants. They own it.
